Hotel Bankov Kosice Slovakia Destination Wedding Photography – Eva & Brian

It’s not often that you see the groom provide the evening entertainment at a wedding. But I’m not talking about air guitars and knee slides across the dance floor. No, this was far more impressive as the groom had flown out his incredible seven piece jazz and funk band, Revolution.

In all, Brian & Eva’s wedding combined my three favourite things: travel, weddings and great music. Oh and a great party too. Earlier in the year I’d photographed his incredible band performing at Jagz Jazz Bar in Ascot, Berkshire.

A couple of months later we caught up again for their pre-wedding shoot in their home town of Windsor, where we managed to convince armed police to allow them to salsa dance under the lights outside the gates of Windsor Castle.

Then in August I found myself on a plane to Eva’s home town of Kosice in Slovakia. There they tied the knot surrounded by their closest family and friends at the Hotel Bankov, situated in a hilly forest above the city.

Being asked to travel overseas to photograph a wedding is a huge privilege. For me it’s an exciting time and you get to see different customs and ways of celebrating a wedding. In Slovakia this is no exception. Plates are smashed and huge amounts of slivovitz consumed. In the UK, someone tapping their spoon on a wine glass indicates a speech is required, in Slovakia the bride and groom are expected to kiss. There was a lot of glass tapping… And come midnight the bride and groom were dressed up in traditional clothing whilst being paraded by a folk band. After that the party really got underway.
