Music has always been a huge part of my life. I played a few instruments including the cello and piano when I was younger and still pick up the cello from time to time. When I listen to a piece of music, a melody or motif and I am often transported to another place in time. I’m also a bit of an instrument geek – visitors to my home will have seen my collection ranging from Indian sitars to Bolivian pan pipes, Tibetan singing bowls and Aboriginal didgeridoos.

Revolution are a jazz and funk band, assembled and led by their drummer Brian Brown. For some time Brian had wanted to get professional photographs of his band in action. Unbeknown to him I was approached by Brian’s fiancé to photograph his band performing at Jagz jazz venue in Ascot as surprise gift for his birthday. This was to be their first live performance in their latest incarnation as a 7 piece outfit.

There is something special about live music and nothing better as a photographer than working to a great soundtrack. These guys rocked with a performance that was full of energy. If you ever get the chance to see them play I would definitely recommend it.

I hope you enjoy this small selection of pictures from the event!
