NOW FEATURED: by the wedding blog Mr & Mrs Unique.

One of my favourite things about being a wedding photographer is the constant stream of surprises and unscripted moments that happen. However I, nor anyone bar two of the 120 guests, could prepare themselves for the father-of-the-groom speech that left the rest of us completely lost for words.

The day had started with Emily getting ready at her parents’ house, high up on a hill overlooking the beach at Westward Ho!

The reception was to be held in the grounds of Emily & Ian’s recently renovated home nearby in the Devon countryside. It was there I joined Ian as he got ready and saw for the first time his rather exotic suit lining.

Soon after I accompanied the groom and groomsmen on the short trip to the beautiful St Swithun’s Church, complete with ornate wood features.

Emily then arrived with her father in a beautiful classic car borrowed from family friends.

Back at their house a three-domed tipi had been set-up by World Inspired Tents, complete with fire pit, cocktail bar, and finished with lots of home-made touches. Whilst the guests enjoyed some refreshments, Emily and Ian ventured out into the grounds and into their house for some photographs of the two of them.

But hang on you might ask, what about the speech??? So as is tradition, the big shocks are normally reserved for the Best Man, but on this occasion the prize for most-outrageous-moment-in-a-speech (probably ever) went to the Bride’s father for revealing a message to the bride and groom. This would have no big deal, except it was indelibly marked on a normally concealed part of his body, much to the surprise of everyone including his wife…

Once everyone had recovered the party really did get started and this is where the atmosphere created by the tipi helped create a memorable end to a fantastic day.

“We are absolutely over the moon at our wedding photographs by the exceptionally talented Richard Murgatroyd. We simply couldn’t be happier. Richard captured our day perfectly and made everything easy, enjoyable and fun! Could not recommend highly enough”
