When I was approached by Anna & Jimmy about photographing their wedding my brief was straight forward – keep it simple, unobtrusive and light-hearted. They were planning a small and intimate ceremony at a local church in Barnes followed by a summer garden party at their house nearby. Both lead busy professional lives and with a young baby daughter they wanted to ensure that their wedding day was as relaxed as possible.

On a boiling hot day in June I arrived as friends and family were erecting some of the many home-made touches around the house and in the garden whilst the excellent Gatherers caterers were setting up inside.

This wedding was a first for me in that bride, Anna, and her bridesmaid sister Polly are identical twins in both looks and manner. It was lovely to see two people have such a special relationship with each other and I was thankful that telling them apart was made easier by Anna being in a white dress!

Whilst I describe myself as a documentary photographer I’m not the kind of person that hides in the bushes like a sniper – however on this occasion both the caterers and I could be find navigating the narrow garden borders and ducking around trees to get to where we needed to go.

In keeping with the brief I documented their wedding in a pure reportage style with just a single formal shot of close family outside and I love the feeling of intimacy and joy in the images.

I highly recommend Richard Murgatroyd photography. Richard brings a high level of professionalism and energy to his work and the quality of the photos speak for themselves.

But the standout feature for us was that on the day he was utterly inconspicuous, leaving everyone else to truly relax.

Thanks Richard!
