When I look back on what an incredible bar mitzvah Noah had, its easy to forget how I was almost not there to photograph it at all.
I’d met the lovely Orline, Noah’s mother, six months previously as she was event-coordinating a bar mitzvah I was photographing at the Bloomsbury Ballrooms. It was an honour when she asked me to photograph her son’s bar mitzvah. However there was one big issue – the date clashed with the final day of a show I was exhibiting at. But with some persistence and an offer of manpower to help break down my exhibit from Orline I was finally convinced to say yes. On reflection I can’t imagine how upset I’d have been to see another photographer in my place…
One Marylebone is a huge vertiginous space and yet it had been transformed into Nike Air Jordan and NYC-inspired themes and filled with epic banners and projections of Noah from our family shoot in Camden. With some great speeches, the ever-brilliant Totem providing the entertainment and an epic break-dancing routine from Noah and his sisters it was the complete bar mitzvah.
